The Delaware Digital Newspaper Project (DDNP) partners with National History Day (NHD) in Delaware! The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press funds two – $100 cash prizes (one each for junior and senior levels) to the best individual project that uses Chronicling America as a primary resource.
Delaware Digital Newspaper Project Chronicling America Prize
- Two (2) $100 cash prizes will be available each year beginning in 2019 — one junior division, and one senior division
- Presented to the best individual project (not group project) that makes significant use of the freely-accessible Chronicling America database in its research (https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/). “Significant use” will be determined at the discretion of the judge(s) who will be designated by the UD Library and NHD. Student projects should use 3 or more resources from Chronicling America and include them in their annotated bibliography.
- First consideration of these prizes will be for self-nominated projects. Judge-nominated projects will be considered if no self-nominated projects are submitted or if self-nominated projects do not meet the prize criteria.

On May 4, 2019, the first DDNP Chronicling America Prize was awarded to a fantastic junior division individual documentary focusing on the Cuyahoga River. Many thanks to University of Delaware Library judges Meg Grotti, Lauren Wallis, Grace Adeneye, Julia Oestreich, and Molly Olney-Zide for assisting with the successful day!
