You Spilled Your Poetry In My Greeting Card – Delaware Digital Newspaper Project

There was a time a little over a century ago, where greeting cards were actually post cards, and it was generally believed that they were on the way out. The December 13th, 1912 edition of the Evening Journal instead chronicled the beginning of a recovery and transformation of Christmas greeting cards into what we recognize today.

The article mentions other things keeping the greeting card relevant, such as artwork, but the poetry seems to have infused new life into this commodity. So for National Poetry Month, we recognize how poetry helped saved the Christmas Card industry and helped maintain the greeting card industry itself in general.
