About this Event
During this workshop, teachers will learn about resources for students to use in their research assignments from librarians and fellow teachers.
Attendees will learn tips and tricks for searching Chronicling America, a database that provides free access to more than 15.5 million pages of historic American newspapers. They will explore how the primary sources available through Chronicling America can be used to create lesson plans and incorporated into the curriculum.
Through hands-on learning opportunities, attendees will discover free digital tools that enable students and teachers to visualize data from Chronicling America and other sources. They will also be introduced to all of the resources freely available to all K-12 public school students and teachers in Delaware through UDLib/SEARCH, a virtual library of online encyclopedias and full-text periodical databases.
While laptops will be provided, attendees are encouraged to bring their personal laptop computer for interactive activities.
Light refreshments will be provided starting at 3:30pm.
This event is sponsored by the UD Library, Museums and Press; the Delaware Digital Newspaper Project; the Delaware Historical Society; and National History Day in Delaware.
