About this Event
Everyone creates and collects digital content that is important to them—email, research papers, typed letters, photographs, movies and music—but properly organizing all of it can be challenging. From keeping 30 copies of the same photo from your last vacation to weeding through your email inbox, preserving your own digital archive can quickly feel like an overwhelming task.
In this workshop, discover the basics of personal digital archiving. Learn how to apply basic data organization techniques, like file naming, data “clean-up,” file format selection and appraisal, to manage your digital archive. You will also explore the benefits and challenges of using social media platforms and online storage services for long-term management of digital materials.
John Caldwell, senior assistant librarian and coordinator of political papers and electronic records, will lead the workshop.
This workshop is open to the public, as well as UD students, faculty and staff. Attendees should have basic computer skills as well as a basic understanding of social media platforms. Registration is required as space is limited.
In part two of this workshop, learn how to incorporate physical items, like letters and photographs, into your physical digital archive.
