{"id":78,"date":"2015-06-19T15:20:37","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T19:20:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.lib.udel.edu\/filmandvideo\/?page_id=78"},"modified":"2025-10-31T15:27:29","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T15:27:29","slug":"collection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/library.udel.edu\/filmandvideo\/collection\/","title":{"rendered":"About the Collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Located in the Morris Library on the Lower Level, the Film &amp; Video Collection acquires audiovisual materials in physical and streaming formats (including over 25,000 programs on DVD, Blu-ray, gaming and legacy formats and 70,000 licensed streaming videos) to support a variety of disciplines.\u00a0 You may <a href=\"https:\/\/library.udel.edu\/filmandvideo\/\">search DELCAT<\/a> for these materials.\u00a0 The Collection is for use primarily in support of teaching and research by University of Delaware faculty and students.\u00a0 The Help Center provides circulation services for Film &amp; Video Collection items, as well as a scheduling service to facilitate media use in support of University classes and authorized programmatic functions.\u00a0 Additionally, the Help Center assists patrons in utilizing the audiovisual materials in the Library via individual and group viewing carrels and a 40-seat Viewing Room.<\/p>\n<p>Film &amp; Video Collection items may be used onsite in viewing and gaming carrels by users with University of Delaware ID cards, UD English Language Institute students, Delaware State University ID cards, Delaware Technical and Community College ID cards, or University of Delaware Library Public Borrower Cards. For information about checking media materials out of the Library, please see <a href=\"https:\/\/library.udel.edu\/filmandvideo\/circulation-scheduling-policies\/\">Circulation and Scheduling Policies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Scope of the Film &amp; Video Collection<\/h2>\n<p>This collection includes feature films from the silent era through to current releases, and educational programs spanning a wide array of subjects from anthropology to zoology. Also included are console-based video games acquired in support of coursework for <a href=\"https:\/\/delcat.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/collectionDiscovery?vid=01UDEL_INST:01UDEL_INST&amp;collectionId=81344234660007701&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PlayStation, Xbox, Sega, and Nintendo consoles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Film &amp; Video Collection purchases newly-acquired titles on discs (standard DVD or high-definition Blu-ray).\u00a0 Videotapes will only be purchased if a title is specifically requested for research or class use and not available in disc format.\u00a0 Streaming content will be licensed to support online courses as institutional licensing models and the Library budget allow.\u00a0 Please allow adequate time for licensing requests and DVD \/ Blu-ray acquisition &#8212; contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/library.udel.edu\/filmandvideo\/askfilm\/#contact-info\">Film &amp; Video Collection Librarian<\/a> with requests well in advance of anticipated use dates.\u00a0 If a legal copy cannot be obtained, the Film &amp; Video Collection Librarian can assist instructors in finding other suitable materials.<\/p>\n<p>The Library maintains equipment on site which can play all media formats contained in its collection.
