As a fellow College student I love hearing the word FREE! I was even more excited to hear that an awesome software is free!
If you like to draw things digitally but afraid of using or don’t have the money to get Photoshop. There is a better option than using Paint on your computer. The app Sketchbook by Auto-desk is now free to anyone. You do have to create an account but will not cost you anything. If you already have an account than update the software and login as normal, it will not charge you from now on.
Sketchbook is different than using Photoshop, but I like to think of it as a nice precursor for Photoshop for those of you that are afraid of using it. Or a Photoshop specifically for drawing.
There are many similarities to Sketchbook and Photoshop.
Both will allow you to use multiple layers. Both will allow to export in different formats Jpeg, PNG, PSD, etc. Being able to export as a PSD file you can transfer the file between Sketchbook or Photoshop.
There are many different kinds of brushes to use and a Copic Marker library.
Many tools are available in Sketchbook that can be found in Photoshop.
Symmetry, french curve rulers, Steady Stroke, Perspective tools, and many more.
