Following the recent decision to discontinue the University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press\u2019s bundled subscription to the Wiley journal portfolio due to institutional financial constraints, the University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press has launched a new series of short tutorial videos designed to help faculty, researchers and graduate students continue accessing the journal articles and scholarly resources they need\u00a0to directly minimize boundaries to access. Additionally, the Library\u00a0has officially suspended the\u00a0previous\u00a0ten-article-per-person limit on Article Galaxy Scholar (AGS) requests. This change ensures that faculty and students can\u00a0immediately\u00a0utilize AGS as a rapid, unrestricted, and cost-free pathway to obtain individual articles from Wiley\u00a0without an arbitrary cap interfering with\u00a0research or teaching.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Earlier this year, the\u00a0Library\u00a0made the difficult decision not to renew its subscription to Wiley journals due to rising costs and ongoing financial constraints affecting academic libraries nationwide. While direct subscription access to newly published Wiley content changed beginning in 2026, the\u00a0Library\u00a0has worked to ensure that University of Delaware researchers continue to have pathways to obtain needed articles and materials.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n To support faculty during this transition, the\u00a0Library\u00a0created three new instructional videos that\u00a0provide\u00a0step-by-step guidance on the tools and services available to the UD community, including:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The videos are intended to reduce barriers to research access by showing users how to quickly\u00a0locate, request and retrieve\u00a0Wiley\u00a0articles.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe have heard the deeply important concerns raised by our faculty across campus regarding our research capacity as an R1 institution,\u201d said Trevor A. Dawes, Vice Provost for Libraries and Museums. \u201cWe know that the tools we introduced require\u00a0adjustments\u00a0in\u00a0how researchers approach journal discovery and retrieval. We do not take that disruption lightly. In direct response, we are providing targeted, explicit training and removing administrative boundaries to guarantee that our community’s scholarship continues without interruption.\u00a0These\u00a0tutorials are designed to help faculty and students navigate the available tools with confidence and ease.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Library usage data reviewed this spring showed that many members of the UD community had not yet fully\u00a0utilized\u00a0the new\u00a0tools\u00a0\u00a0currently\u00a0available. The tutorial series was developed in response to faculty feedback and as part of a broader effort to improve awareness and ease of use.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cOur priority is ensuring faculty can continue accessing the scholarship they need as efficiently as possible,\u201d said\u00a0Erin\u00a0Daix,\u00a0\u00a0\u201cThese videos provide practical, step-by-step guidance for using AGS,\u00a0LibKey\u00a0Nomad and other research tools that can help save time, streamline workflows and reduce barriers to discovery and access.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The videos also highlight how faculty can:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Faculty are encouraged to watch the videos and explore the available resources.
