Abstract:Frederic W. Goudy, world renowned type designer, was born March 8, 1865 in Bloomington, Illinois. The collection consists of material relating to the life and work of Frederic W. Goudy.[...] Included are over 150 printed pamphlets, broadsides, books and printed ephemera by various private presses. These items were printed as tributes to Frederic Goudy on his various birthdays, on anniversaries of The Village Press, and other occasions. Other material in this collection includes tributes to Bertha Goudy, portraits of Frederic Goudy, examples of types designed by Goudy, booklets and articles written by Goudy, material about Goudy and his work, a small amount of correspondence, and samples of his stationery.

Abstract:A novelist, social historian, and political activist, Waldo Frank was born on August 25, 1889 to an upper-middle class, Jewish family in Long Branch, New[...] Jersey. A prolific writer, Frank penned fourteen novels, eighteen volumes of social history, and well over one hundred articles on literary and political subjects. During a brief abandonment of novel writing, Frank wrote a number of articles for publication, in addition plays, before returning again to novels. The papers of American author Waldo Frank comprise .6 linear feet (78 items) of letters, essays, lectures, poems, photographs and ephemera. Most of the items are related to his career as a social historian and political activist. Perhaps most interesting in this collection are Waldo Frank's writings, which include a series of lectures Frank delivered in Latin America in 1942, which garnerned him both praise and criticism.

Abstract:Novelist and short story writer Douglas Woolf was born on March 23, 1922 in New York City. Woolf’s stories began to appear in print during[...] the 1940s in such journals as Story, Prairie Schooner, The Span, and Western Review. He went on to publish a number of short stories and novels in addition to running Wolf Run Books, a combination publishing and book-selling firm. The Douglas Woolf papers comprises 21 linear feet of autograph and typescript drafts of Woolf’s novels, short stories, and poems; as well as the author’s personal papers, correspondence files, files related to Wolf Run Books, and printed material. The final segment of the collection is a group of papers related to Woolf’s second wife and literary executor, Sandra Braman. The papers document Douglas Woolf’s dedication to his writing and the sacrifices that that vocation entailed, both for himself and his family. The contents of the collection also clearly develop a picture of Woolf’s lifestyle. Woolf’s varied employment, his need for solitude, his isolation from established professional enterprises, his challenges with the publishing world, and his personality are all variously chronicled in these papers.

Abstract:The Bruce Garland collection of Thomas Wise material comprises approximately 1.6 linear feet of material pertaining to English bibliographer, book collector, and forger Thomas J. Wise (1859-1937). Much of the[...] collection's material was compiled by English bibliographer and book collector John Carter (1905-1975), who co-authored with Graham Pollard (1903-1976) An Enquiry into the Nature of Certain Nineteenth Century Pamphlets (1934), which effectively outed Wise as a forger. The collection contains correspondence, including original correspondence of Wise's, manuscripts, page proofs, galley proofs, auction catalogs, clippings, scrapbooks, periodicals and articles, and ephemera.
