Abstract:The manuscript collection of the Latimer Family Papers consists of material spanning the dates 1690-1927, with bulk dates of 1770-1870. The collection as a whole includes correspondence, newspaper clippings,[...] ledgers, checks, bills, receipts, indentures, deeds, wills, photographs, and ship logs. The collection details the personal and business affairs of the Latimer family and also documents events of historical and economic significance in the context of revolutionary America and early 19th century trade. The contents of the collection were previously arranged in chronological order, and are here presented in four series.

Abstract:The Nineteenth-century American military collection is an artificial collection that contains 1.6 linear feet of American military records spanning the period 1846-1903. The bulk of the collection dates from the[...] American Civil War (1861-1865). Additional records are from the Reconstruction period (1865-1877) and the remainder of the nineteenth century. There are also five items pertaining to the Mexican War (1846-1848) and two documents from the U.S. Army Corps of Topographical Engineers from 1856-1858. The records primarily document the administrative and bureaucratic logistics of waging a war and maintaining an army. Items include official correspondence between officers; orders; morning, trimonthly, and consolidated reports of unit manpower and supplies; food inspections; cargo and livestock manifests; provisions for supplies; and discharges and appointments of individual soldiers. Some personal letters (11 items) to and from Civil War soldiers are also present, as are a number of personal letters to and from Civil War veterans written during the post-war period.

Abstract:The Kim Rogers Burdick National Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association records contains 3.3 linear feet of documents, correspondence, new clippings, brochures, financial records, and multimedia materials gathered by Burdick during her[...] work with the Association (also known as W3R), which first began meeting informally in 1999 and was incorporated in the state of Delaware in 2004 with the purpose of identifying and marking the approximately 650-mile route traveled by colonial and French troops en route to their victory at the siege of Yorktown, Virginia, in 1781. In addition to the records of this national coordinating body, the collection also contains materials from the smaller state-level W3R organizations, in particular the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route of Delaware (W3R-DE) and material related to the legislation enacting the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Heritage Act of 2000.

Members of the family were farmers and large landholders who maintained business relations with many prominent citizens of early Newark, such as George Platt, Samuel Donnell, James T. Abstract:Thomas R. Carper (1947- ) served the state of Delaware as its member-at-large in the U.S. House of Representatives for five terms: he was elected as a Democrat to the[...] Ninety-eighth and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1983 - January 3, 1993). Carper served on the committees of Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs, and Merchant Marine and Fisheries, with memberships on several subcommittees. Carper was elected with the "budget conscious class of 1982" and was a fiscal conservative in his legislative efforts. Carper worked on the bailout plan for the savings and loan industry, correctly predicting the enormity of the problem. The Thomas R. Carper congressional pPapers reflect issues on banking, environmental and coastal concerns, fishing and tourism, and many other topics of interest to Delawareans in the 1980s. In addition to correspondence, memoranda, and office files, the collection includes reports, documents, and memorabilia from Carper's congressional career.
