Abstract:Born in Ohio in 1914, James Purdy is one of the United States' most prolific, yet little known writers. A novelist, poet, playwright[...] and amateur artist, Purdy has published over fifty volumes. The James Purdy Manuscript Collection spans the years 1961 to 1978 and contains three items: a short story, Everything Under the Sun; and two novels, I am Elijah Thrush, and Narrow Rooms. Everything Under the Sun and Narrow Rooms contain minor corrections by the author. The typescript of I am Elijah Thrush is perhaps most interesting from a scholarly standpoint because it contains extensive corrections and additions by the author.

The Kay Boyle papers relating to the Citizens' Mission to Cambodia, spanning from 1960-1979, consists of diaries, correspondence, books, periodicals, news clippings, reports, speeches, audio recording tapes, a photograph, and poems, documenting controversial aspects of the ground war in Vietnam and its possible expansion into Cambodia through the recorded thoughts and actions of Kay Boyle and the Citizens' Mission to Cambodia. Additional items capture the evolution of political Cambodia well into the 1970s through various publications and articles.

Abstract:Watercolor artist Sir William Russell Flint, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on April 4, 1880. In 1900 he went to London, combining work, first as[...] a medical illustrator (1900-1902), and later as a commercial designer and magazine illustrator (1902-1907). His artwork was exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and other public venues, and was also acquired by prominent national and international museums. William Russell Flint also gained recognition for his work in dry-point engraving and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1933. Additionally, Flint was interested in typography, book design, and illustration. The collection of letters written by Sir William Russell Flint to Kay Pickford and include eighty-three items in the collection include seventy-eight letters written by William Russell Flint, two letters written by his son, Francis Russell Flint, and three newspaper clippings. Sir William Russell Flint addresses his letters to a young artist and family friend, Kay Pickford. According to a newspaper clipping in the collection, Pickford was a London artist, who began painting as a result of Sir Flint's encouragement of her early sketches and paintings. William Russell Flint's letters communicate their mutual friendship and his support for the younger artist.
