Scope and Contents

Collection of prints, printed sheets, manuscripts, original drawings, and maps, removed from a scrapbook (original boards present) compiled by John Charles Brooke (cf. DNB, v. 2, p. 1338-1339) and bequeathed to the College of Arms, London, whose bookplate and release stamp is present on one of the boards.

Composed chiefly of engravings removed from books (i.e. James Paine's Plans, elevations, and sections of noblemen and gentlemen's houses ... 2nd ed. London : The author, 1783, Colen Campbell's Vitruvius Britannicus, or, The British architect ... London : The author, 1717-1771, and [possibly] Johannes Kip's Britannia illustrata, or, Views of several of the Queen's palaces ... London : I. Smith, 1714.) Engravers and artists represented include Samuel Buck, Thomas Bladeslade, W.H. Toms, James Basire, Leonard Knyff, and John Woolfe.
