Irish playwright, drama critic and author St. John Greer Ervine (1883-1971) is best known for his plays, some of which were staged at the Abbey Theatre. He also managed the Abbey Theatre for a brief period.

This collection contains a small group of correspondence sent by St. John Greer Ervine over a period of thirty years. One 1931 letter was sent to Kenneth Lawson. The remaining letters were addressed to Harold Frederick Rubinstein and are dated from 1951-1961. All are typed letters signed with some corrections. There is also a photograph labeled "Honey Ditches, Seaton, Devon." It is addressed to Harold Frederick Rubinstein and dated Christmas 1961. The letters discuss George Bernard Shaw, various anecdotes, and a book on Shaw which Ervine is writing. Pencil notations on one of the Rubinstein letters may be by the recipient.
