Biographical and Historical Notes

Virginia Spencer Carr is the John B. and Elena Diaz-Verson Amos Distinguished Chair in English Letters, Department of English, Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the author of The lonely hunter : a biography of Carson McCullers (Doubleday, 1975; Carroll & Graf Publishers, 1985) and Dos Passos, a life (Doubleday, 1984), and Paul Bowles : a life (Scribner, 2004).
