 Collection
Identifier: MSS 0744

Scope and Contents Note

This collection was begun in 2015 in an attempt to document websites created by politicians, political parties, and public policy organizations in Delaware. The websites crawled are representative of the collecting policies at the University of Delaware Library to document politics, policy, and government in Delaware. Included in this collection are websites and social media sites of current and former members of Congress; political parties; online press associations; Delaware individuals who represent leadership in diplomatic or political arenas; institutions, organizations, or groups concerned with public policy or civic affairs; and websites of local, state and federal candidates for elected office. The websites crawled are a curated sample, representing different facets of politics, policy, and government in Delaware. Sites will continue to be added to the collection in the future. The complete web archive is available at https://www.archive-it.org/collections/5518

The collection consists of ninety-eight websites related to Delaware policy, politics, and government. The collection is organized into five series:

The first series, Delaware congressional delegation, include websites and social media sites for the current members of Congress: Senator Tom Carper (2001-), Senator Chris Coons (2010-), and Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester (2017-). Social media sites include both Facebook and Twitter accounts for all three members. Also included is the official website and social media for former Representative John Carney (2011-2017).

The second series, Delaware political parties, includes websites and social media sites for political parties in Delaware including the Delaware Democratic Party, Delaware Republican Party, Delaware Green Party, and Delaware Tea Party.

The third series, Delaware policy organizations and individuals, includes websites and social media sites for various environmental organizations; local public policy and civic organizations; public policy institutes; and individuals who have served in public office for Delaware.

The fourth series, Delaware media, includes websites for media and press associations in Delaware.

The fifth series, Delaware campaigns, includes websites and social media sites for candidates for local, state and federal office. This series includes subseries for each election year.

Abstract

This collection broadly documents online sources related to Delaware policy, politics and government, including websites and social media sites of current and former members of Congress; Delaware political parties; Delaware individuals who represent leadership in diplomatic or political arenas, domestic or foreign, at the local, state, and national levels; institutions, organizations, or groups concerned with public policy or civic affairs in Delaware; and Delaware political campaign websites.

Arrangement

For Series V. Delaware campaigns, sites are listed during the first campaign cycle in which the candidate ran for office using that particular website. For example, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester first ran for Congress in 2016. She ran for re-election in 2018 and 2022, but used the same campaign websites; as such, you can access the full archive of her campaign website, Facebook page and Twitter feed from 2016-current from their listings in Subseries V.A., Delaware campaigns, 2016.
