Finalized in Spring 2017 and updated in\u00a0<\/span>2026<\/span>, this document broadly guides the University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press in planning, decision-making and resource allocation.<\/span>\u00a0Following senior leadership discussions in 2024 and a retreat in 2025, these directions have been enhanced to incorporate three key priority areas<\/span>\u00a0(Research Support, Experiential Learning and Open Access)\u00a0<\/span>established<\/span>\u00a0by the Vice Provost and leadership team. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n This is an aspirational and living document that articulates an agenda aligned with the strategic priorities of the University and the needs of the community we serve. As such, this document will be updated every few years to ensure our work and efforts\u00a0<\/span>remain<\/span>\u00a0relevant and forward thinking.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n The Library, Museums and Press inspires the intellectual,\u00a0<\/span>scholarly<\/span>\u00a0and creative achievement of\u00a0<\/span>University<\/span>\u00a0and global communities with expert staff, excellent service, dynamic learning spaces and access to diverse collections and information resources.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n The Library, Museums and Press is the intellectual and interdisciplinary hub of the University. We partner with the University of Delaware community and beyond for scholarly and creative\u00a0<\/span>endeavors;<\/span>\u00a0and support the University’s efforts to have a positive impact on the community and offer innovative solutions to global problems.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press contributes to a community that nurtures intellectual curiosity and free inquiry, where everyone is empowered to learn and flourish, in alignment with the University of Delaware Values.<\/a> These values ground our strategic and operational decisions and inform the way we develop personnel, spaces, collections, services, and programs.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Our values in action:<\/p>\n In accordance with<\/span>\u00a0these practices, the UD Library,\u00a0<\/span>Museums<\/span>\u00a0and Press\u00a0<\/span>operates<\/span>\u00a0with transparency and accountability. We recognize the dignity of all people in public and private\u00a0<\/span>discourse, and<\/span>\u00a0engage in dialogue that builds trust and fosters collaboration. Thus, we value and cultivate the free exchange of\u00a0<\/span>ideas, and<\/span>\u00a0condemn speech or action that threatens the physical or psychological safety of any member of our community.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Each of the Library, Museums and Press’s strategic directions rests upon the interconnected foundations of equity, diversity,\u00a0<\/span>inclusion<\/span>\u00a0and accessibility; organizational effectiveness;\u00a0<\/span>continual assessment of the experience of our patrons and visitors<\/span>; and effective internal collaboration amongst our staff. To provide superior services to our community, none of these foundational principles can be successful without\u00a0<\/span>the others<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Library, Museums and Press celebrates the diversity of our community, welcoming and respecting the contributions of all, so we develop\u00a0<\/span>equitable<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>inclusive<\/span>\u00a0and accessible services to foster those contributions.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n An effective, thriving organization requires a\u00a0<\/span>well supported<\/span>\u00a0staff, empowered with the knowledge and resources needed to fulfill its mission and goals. We cultivate an inclusive work environment that supports staff engagement, values input from all employees, and uses assessment and data analysis to drive decision-making, organizational\u00a0<\/span>development<\/span>\u00a0and responsible resource allocation.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n Our community of users is our top priority. With that in mind, the UD Library, Museums and Press develops services, spaces,\u00a0<\/span>collections<\/span>\u00a0and resources that will ignite creativity, foster learning and collaboration, and enhance discovery. Through continual and routine assessment, we\u00a0<\/span>identify<\/span>\u00a0the needs of the communities we serve and evaluate our activities and services to plan for future improvements.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n The University Library, the University Museums and the University Press each focus on different elements of the scholarship, creativity and culture created and presented at the University.
