The Library Pickup Service, our Holds Service, is available so that users can check out Library materials. Once you place a request, Library staff will retrieve items from the University of Delaware Library’s collection.
Requesting Materials (Holds) for UD students, Faculty and Staff
Requesting Books
If the Library owns the book and it’s on the shelf, students, faculty and staff can request the book to be pulled from the shelf and held at the Help Center for pickup by clicking the Request button in DELCAT on the full detail page for the book.

Help Center staff will notify you by email when it’s available for pick up at the Morris Library Help Center. Requests for books owned by the University of Delaware Library will be processed Monday through Friday with a goal of having books ready for pick up in two business days. As an alternative, patrons may click the Find It button to locate the item in the library and check the book out at the Help Center or Self-Checkout kiosk.
If the Library doesn’t own the book or if the book isn’t available at the moment, you may request from another library through Interlibrary Loan. Once the book is available for pick up at the Help Center, ILL staff will notify you via email. Typical turnaround time for obtaining a book through Interlibrary Loan is 7-10 days.
University of Delaware students, faculty and staff should use the Library Annex Request Form below to request journals that are stored at the Library Annex.
If you are a Public Borrower or member of the community, please use the forms below for requesting books from the collection. Public Borrowers are unable to use authenticated online forms because they are not eligible to receive the UDelNet IDs these services require. Because Public Borrowers and members of the community are not eligible for Interlibrary Loan privileges, requests that cannot be fulfilled through the University of Delaware Library will not be forwarded to the Interlibrary Loan Office.
Requesting DVDs, Blu-rays and Video Games
Students, faculty and staff may borrow DVDs, Blu-rays and video games by clicking the Request button on the full display page of the item in DELCAT, using the same process as is described above for books. To reserve an audiovisual or video game carrel to watch a film or play a game that you are borrowing, please contact or visit the Help Center.
Requesting Materials from Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service available to University of Delaware students, faculty and staff for requesting books, journal articles, DVDs, and other items that are needed for research but are not available in any University of Delaware Library collection.
