Request Materials

The book stacks are open and accessible and our Pickup Service has been replaced with a Holds Service. If you’d like to request material in advance, like you did when the Pickup Service was offered, you will use our Holds Service. Use our Holds Service to have Library staff retrieve items from the University of Delaware Library’s collection.

Requesting Materials (Holds) for UD students, Faculty and Staff

Requesting Books

Get This For Me! button

When searching the Library’s catalog, University of Delaware students, faculty and staff can use the “Get This For Me!” button to have Library staff get the books they need, whether the books are here at the University of Delaware Library or owned by another library. Just click the “Get This For Me!” button, located on the right side of the screen, on most book titles you see in the catalog.

If the Library owns the book and it’s on the shelf, we’ll pull the item from the stacks and notify you when it’s available for pick up at the Morris Library Help Center. Requests for books owned by the University of Delaware Library will be processed Monday through Friday with a goal of having books ready for pick up in two business days. The Retrieval Request Form may also be used to request books.

If the Library doesn’t own the book or if the book isn’t available at the moment, we’ll request it for you from another library through Interlibrary Loan. Once the book is available for pick up at the Help Center, we’ll notify you. Typical turnaround time for obtaining a book through Interlibrary Loan is 7-10 days.

University of Delaware students, faculty and staff should use the Library Annex Request Form below to request journals that are stored at the Library Annex.

If you are a Public Borrower or member of the community, please use the forms below for requesting books from the collection. Public Borrowers are unable to use authenticated online forms including the “Get This For Me!” button because they are not eligible to receive the UDelNet IDs these services require. Because Public Borrowers and members of the community are not eligible for Interlibrary Loan privileges, requests that cannot be fulfilled through the University of Delaware Library will not be forwarded to the Interlibrary Loan Office.

Requesting DVDs, Blu-rays and Games

Use the Retrieval Request Form to request that a DVD, Blu-ray, game or other item be held for you at the Library Help Desk. Requests will be filled the following business day, and you will be notified when the item is available for pick up.

Requesting Materials from Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service available to University of Delaware students, faculty and staff for requesting books, journal articles, DVDs, and other items that are needed for research but are not available in any University of Delaware Library collection. To place an ILL request, please visit this webpage.

Because Public Borrowers and members of the community are not eligible for Interlibrary Loan privileges, requests that cannot be fulfilled through the University of Delaware Library will not be forwarded to the Interlibrary Loan Office.

Requesting Materials (Holds) for Public Borrowers

Public borrowers please use the Book Holds Service form under “Forms” on the Library home page. Use the Book Holds Service form to have Library staff retrieve items from the University of Delaware Library’s collection. If the book is on the shelf, we’ll pull it from the stacks and notify you when it’s available for pickup. Requests are processed Monday through Friday with a goal of having items ready for pickup in two business days.
