Library, Museums and Press Launches UDStax, AI-Based Chatbot Pilot
The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press is excited to announce the launch of the UDStax pilot project. UDStax is an experimental artificial intelligence-based chatbot that can be used by students, faculty and staff to answer general questions about Library, Museums and Press services and spaces.
UDStax will be available on the Library’s website throughout the spring 2024 semester. The current iteration is the result of hundreds of hours of training on Library, Museums and Press data, overseen by expert staff from across the organization.
At the end of the spring semester, staff will examine UDStax-supplied answers and general user feedback to determine whether or not the chatbot is a useful tool for the UD community.
The UDStax pilot is part of a long tradition within the Library, Museums and Press of leveraging emerging technologies to support our community and expand access to our services and collections.
“AI technologies have the potential to fundamentally change the academic landscape,” said Trevor A. Dawes, vice provost for libraries and museums and May Morris University Librarian. “With the launch of UDStax and our librarians’ efforts to define and support AI fluency, the Library, Museums and Press is playing a critical role in helping the University of Delaware community grapple with the impact of AI on teaching, learning and research.”
