Library to Launch Updated DELCAT on May 27
On May 27, 2026, the University of Delaware Library will implement the next version of DELCAT, its online catalog. The update reflects several years of development by the vendor Ex Libris, part of Clarivate, which began work on a new user experience in 2023.
As part of that effort, the vendor conducted extensive user research, including surveys, interviews and usability testing, and incorporated feedback from library users across its customer base.
The updated DELCAT is designed to improve how users discover and access information. Key enhancements include a more intuitive and visually streamlined interface that simplifies navigation, as well as a new artificial intelligence-powered search feature called “Ask Anything,” which allows researchers to search using natural language. The platform also offers improved support for users of assistive technology and aligns with current accessibility standards.
Library staff have spent the past academic year preparing for the transition. While the catalog’s interface will change, access to core services and resources will remain consistent. This includes links to course readings and research materials, e-resources, login processes, interlibrary loan and course reserves. Content within user accounts, such as loans, saved records, saved searches and alerts, will also remain unchanged.
The implementation will take place the morning of May 27. No service disruptions are expected.
Throughout the summer, faculty will have multiple opportunities to become familiar with the new catalog. Support will include tutorials and guides highlighting new features, as well as workshops offered during the Keep Calm and Teach On event in August.
