New Open Journal Finder Helps UD Authors Publish Open Access
The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press has launched Open Journal Finder, a new tool to help UD faculty, staff and students identify journals where they can publish their research open access with a waived or reduced article processing charge (APC).
Open access publishing makes scholarly research freely available to readers, but publishing fees can present a barrier for authors. Many publishers charge APCs, which can cost thousands of dollars per article. Through agreements with several publishers, the Library, Museums and Press helps reduce these costs for UD authors, with full waivers or discounts available for eligible articles in more than 3,500 journals.
Open Journal Finder makes it easier to identify these opportunities. Authors can search by journal title, publisher or subject to find journals covered by the university’s open access agreements. The tool indicates whether an agreement provides a full APC waiver or a discount and, when applicable, specifies the discount amount. Authors can also explore journal information, including submission guidelines and citation metrics, to inform their publishing decisions.
Since January 2025, more than 80 articles authored by UD researchers have been published open access with no APC, and more than 100 additional articles have been published with a discounted APC. These agreements help UD authors share their scholarship more widely while reducing the financial barriers to open access publishing.
To learn more, visit the Library, Museums and Press website for information about open access agreements and discounts. The Library also offers a research guide to open access publishing with resources to support authors throughout the publishing process.
