Welcome to the University of Delaware Library’s Special Collections website. Special collections at the library comprise the Special Collections Department, the Manuscripts and Archives Department, and the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection.
Holdings of Special Collections of the University of Delaware Library include books, manuscripts, archival collections, maps, prints and graphic materials, broadsides, periodicals, pamphlets, photographs, audio-visual material, electronic records and born-digital material, ephemera, and realia from the fifteenth century to the present.
The collections complement the Library’s general circulating collections with particular strengths in the subject areas of the arts; English, Irish, and American literature; history and Delawareana; horticulture; and history of science and technology. The University of Delaware Archives is separately administered and comprises university records and history of the institution.
The printed collections of Special Collections are fully cataloged with records available in the Library’s online catalog, DELCAT Discovery. Only a few manuscript collections are currently cataloged, but future plans include cataloging all manuscript collections with records available in DELCAT. Finding aids to most of the manuscripts and archival collections are available online, however some unpublished collection descriptions are only available at the Library.
