Building Roots: Doing Background Research
Background research can help you build your knowledge about a topic in order to research it more effectively. While open web searching can be a great strategy for background research, the Library also has resources you can use to explore a new topic.
Use Credo Reference to search for your topic. Try to find a short article that provides some background information. Skim the article and identify one new piece of information about your topic.
Librarians can also help you at any stage of your research process. Have a volunteer from the class come to the front and use Ask the Library to do a live chat with a UD librarian. Let us know which Associate in Arts campus you’re on and ask us about some additional strategies for effective background research. Have another class volunteer write down the suggested strategies on the board.
