For the first time, the University of Delaware Library will be participating in Money Smart Week (MSW). Money Smart Week is a national public awareness campaign created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago to educate the public about financial literacy. The 2017 MSW takes place April 22-29.

Members of the University community and the public are invited to a free seminar on April 26, 2017 covering important financial literacy topics. Tips for Saving on a Tight Budget

Time: 10 – 11 a.m.

Presenter: Maria Pippidis, Family and Consumer Science Extension Educator, University of Delaware

Saving is essential for financial well-being. It is a key step to financial security in the short-term and the long-term. For some people, saving is easy, while for others it is a big challenge. This presentation will provide simple techniques for people at any income level to “find money” to save. We will discuss where to put your savings and identify motivators that will help you save.

How to Pay For College? Lowering Debt and Increasing Savings

Time: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Presenter: Carla Lord-Powalski, Student Success Grant Coordinator for Student Financial Services, University of Delaware

An important question for parents and students is: How will I pay for college? This seminar will cover various options available to parents and college bound individuals about how to fund a college education. It will explore scholarships, grants, and many types of college loans available to students and parents. It will also cover strategies to reduce college debt burden. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.

Strategies for Saving for Retirement

Planning for retirement can be difficult. The road is full of twists and turns with few road signs. This workshop will outline the basic strategies to plan for a successful retirement. Also, it will provide information about retirement savings plan for successful retirement, discuss how to maximize your social security benefit, and show how to position your investment portfolio to last.
