Acquisitions in Museums are recorded here in PowerPoint documents that can be downloaded. They are organized by year and include selected images.
Among the 2020 acquisitions in the Museums are a significant number of photographs, an important group of prints and other works on paper, as well as works by former faculty members at University of Delaware.
The photographs include multiple examples of works by two contemporary women photographers and a large selection of vernacular and amateur photographs donated by the well-known collector, Peter J. Cohen. A large number of photographs by Larry Fink were added to an important existing collection of Fink’s works already in Museums collections. Fink’s photography emphasizes social observation, and in these new acquisitions, particularly subjects related to politics and political campaigning.
In the category of prints, Museums acquired an important recent print by contemporary African American artist Renée Stout. Her print was made specifically in response to the social condition of quarantining due to Covid-19. Other examples of prints added to the collection ins 2020 include works by Käthe Kollwitz, Edouard Manet, and Francisco Goya among others.
Works by two former faculty members from the Department of Art and Design entered the collection in 2020. These include a complex and large painting by Stephen Tanis and a drawing by Julio daCunha, which reflects his interest in the work of Francisco Goya.
