Research Data Management Digital Badge

In this badge program, participants will receive the Research Data Management badge by completing data management workshops and demonstrating competency with research data management best practices. Participants will learn basic strategies for research data management throughout the research lifecycle. This approach will provide a whole-project perspective for research data management, which will prepare participants to craft data management plans at the beginning of a project rather than trying to design pieces throughout the project’s lifespan. Participants will also learn to apply the FAIR principles for data sharing to ensure their shared data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. Application of the FAIR principles will help participants understand the importance of metadata, documentation, open file formats, and comprehensibility when sharing their research data. Finally, participants will learn how to write a data management plan using the DMPTool. This will allow them to take the next step and apply materials and concepts from the program toward their own success.
