What We Teach

Research Skills

Conducting research is a process. To be an effective researcher requires the ability to generate appropriate research questions; develop strategies to find, evaluate, and use resources; design methodologies to support original studies; and credit the work of others. Contact a subject specialist to arrange instruction for research skills in your area.

Creative Media

Creative media assignments allow students to demonstrate learning in real-world contexts by creating video, audio, and graphic design projects. We help faculty design assignments, provide student-facing resources for the creation process, and teach the skills students need to craft compelling digital stories. Primary Sources

Primary sources provide firsthand accounts of the time and context they were created within, making them valuable sources of information about the ideas and attitudes of that period. They can include documents, books, artworks, maps, films, objects, minerals, data, and much more.

For primary sources in our collections and for support on teaching with them, please contact Special Collections and Museums. For more guidance on finding and using primary sources, please see the Primary Sources Research Guide.

Data Analysis

Data literacy is the ability to create, use and manage data. Beyond knowing where to find data and how to use it, researchers benefit from an awareness of the critical implications of its use.

Publishing and Sharing Work

Understanding how scholars publish and share work is a key skill for both early and advanced researchers. It includes skills like designing an effective research presentation, appropriately reusing or citing work, preserving research, and publishing work in multiple formats.

Open Educational Resources

Open Educational Resources (OER) are open licensed and free teaching materials. Faculty who want to incorporate OER materials into their courses can work with our team through the Open and Affordable Teaching Grants, sign up for a Pressbooks account to self-author, or by working with a subject specialist librarian.
