Support for Research Assignments
Beginning in Spring 2026, library teaching support for research projects will be offered primarily through online tutorials, drop-in research workshops open to all ENGL110 students, and the ENGL110 Research Guide. Instructors who are new to teaching ENGL110 can submit this form to request an in-person, librarian-led class session.
More information about the tutorials and workshops will be available in mid-January. Please contact Lauren Wallis with questions or to discuss how to best integrate the tutorials in your course.
Getting Started with Research Tutorial
Students navigate an example research process in a “choose your own adventure” interface. The tutorial covers topic development, search strategies in DELCAT and databases, and evaluating source relevance for a topic. Activities emphasize the cyclical (sometimes frustrating) nature of the research process and support students in developing confidence and a flexible mindset toward academic research.
Engaging in the Scholarly Conversation Tutorial
Through interviews with UD faculty, this module helps students understand how scholarly information is created and used in academia and beyond. Students will practice identifying common components of scholarly publications, including surface-level markers such as author credentials and in-text representations of scholarly conversations such as literature reviews.

New or trying a new assignment? Request a one-time librarian-led session which may cover digital storytelling, project planning, finding open-licensed content, and production/design basics.
Reserve Room B (Mac classroom) to lead a hands-on class session for your assignment. SMDC tours at the beginning of class are not available for the fall 2025 semester.
The Student Multimedia Design Center offers equipment, software, and production spaces, and individual help. It will transition to the Research Data and Design Commons in spring 2026; learn more about the upcoming changes.
