UD Library, Museums and Press Signs Open Access Agreement, Expanding Reach of UD Research
The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press recently entered into an agreement with Cambridge University Press to support open access publishing, which helps broaden the reach and availability of academic scholarship.
The agreement allows UD-affiliated authors to publish an unlimited number of open access research articles in Cambridge University Press hybrid and gold journals at no additional cost. Unlike subscription-based content, open access scholarship is content that is freely available to everyone around the world, regardless of their affiliation with an academic institution. Previously, authors from UD who published in Cambridge University Press journals would have to pay article processing charges (also called “APCs”) to make their scholarship publicly available.
In addition, UD faculty, students and staff can now access the entire suite of academic journals published by Cambridge University Press, the oldest university press in the world. Cambridge University Press publishes more than 400 peer-reviewed academic journals, covering subjects across the humanities and social sciences as well as science, technology and medicine.
“I am excited that the University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press and Cambridge University Press have signed this agreement, which will expand global access to cutting-edge UD research,” said Trevor A. Dawes, vice provost for libraries and museums and May Morris University Librarian. “We understand and value the work of university presses, and look forward to partnering with Cambridge University Press to move open access forward in a sustainable and equitable way.”
The deal with Cambridge University Press marks the first time the Library, Museums and Press has signed what is commonly called a “Read and Publish” agreement. By signing this agreement, our organization joins more than 1,000 other institutions, including 140 in the United States, that have a Read and Publish agreement with this important publisher in order to advance open access. The agreement was negotiated by the NorthEast Research Libraries Consortium (NERL), of which the UD Library, Museums and Press is a member.
