About this Event
Join us for this virtual event where artist Bobby Silas will discuss and demonstrate his creative process.
Silas is known for reviving the 500-year old Sikyatki method of firing pottery. This technique, which uses lignite coal, was initially used by Hopi artists between 1100-1600.
During the event, Silas will provide insights into his process for coiling and polishing his pots as well as how he includes dried plants and pigments. He will also speak to how his work includes innovations that are grounded in history.
This event is held in conjunction with the exhibition Grounded Innovation: Pueblo Arts of Clay, which is on view in Old College Gallery through May 14. The exhibition explores how contemporary Pueblo artists innovate to strengthen bonds with their ancestors and homelands, rather than breaking them.
This virtual event is free and open to the public.
Registration is required. Once registered, you will receive an email with details on how to join the event via Zoom.
