Gale Security Incident and Impact on UD Users
What happened
Gale/Cengage—a publisher of several databases to which the University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press subscribes, including Gale Primary Sources—recently announced a data breach of its systems.
What is the impact for UD users
According to its website, “there is no indication that any of the information exposed in this incident has been used inappropriately as the sites only collected names and email addresses. There is no evidence that other information was impacted.”
Who is affected
Only users who actively provided their name and email through a Gale product could be affected by this breach.
If you were affected
If your user account was affected, only the name and email address you provided, which may or may not be a UD email address, would have been exposed. No other personal information was exposed, as no personal information is transmitted to Gale when the database is used from the Library’s website.
Users whose names and email addresses were exposed are receiving individual emails directly from Gale with the subject line “Notification Regarding Gale Security Incident.”
