About this Event
After 20 years, the opioid epidemic shows no signs of abating anytime soon. Despite massive government funding, a shift in anti-drug policies, and the promise of billions of dollars from lawsuits to address the problem, overdose deaths in the United States keep rising and are projected to continue upward.
Why is this epidemic so impervious to our interventions? How can we change course and slow the damage? Join Professor Tammy L. Anderson to address these questions using data from the national, regional and state levels, with a special focus on Delaware.
This in-person event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Attendance is limited to ensure appropriate social distancing. If the event is full, you will be added to the waiting list. This event will not be recorded.
Tammy L. Anderson is a professor in the University of Delaware’s Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, and the associate director of the UD Center for Drug and Health Studies. She has published research on various substance abuse problems, and has produced technological tools to address the opioid problem. Anderson currently serves on Governor Carney’s Prescription Opioid Settlement Commission. She also has worked extensively with Delaware’s Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long on the Behavioral Health Consortium to address opioid abuse.
