Call for Student Art Proposals

The Library, Museums and Press hopes to expand the presence of student art in Morris Library following three successful years of an alumni MFA exhibition program on view in the Reading Room.

The newly identified exhibition spaces for student art are highly visible. One is a large study space near the Atrium on the second floor, and the other is opposite the row of group study spaces on the first floor.

Submissions for the Spring 2023 Semester

Theme: Books as art, art inspired by books!

Have you ever made a book? Have you ever read something that captured your imagination and sent you into the studio to create? We want to see!

Accepted submissions will be exhibited in Morris Library during the Spring 2023 semester. Installation will occur prior to the start of the spring semester and run through the end of the semester.

Works submitted for consideration should be ready to hang on the wall, framed or unframed. We cannot accommodate works not ready to hang.

Artists will be asked to sign a waiver releasing the Library, Museums and Press from responsibility for any loss of, or damage to, artwork while on exhibition. The Library, Museums and Press may photograph artists and artwork for publicity and promotion.

Submissions are due Friday, December 2, 2022.

This student art submission theme has been chosen to complement an artists’ book exhibition in Special Collections Gallery to be installed Spring 2023. Artists’ books demonstrate their creators’ mastery of techniques, such as typography, design, printmaking, paper making and bookbinding. This parallel Special Collections exhibition will showcase the innovative ways book artists use the medium to explore topics including race, gender and sexuality, politics, and the climate crisis.
